Iconoclast -- New Aurora -- Economy

The Department of Commerce (DOC) arbitrates fair business practices, imports and exports, and licenses all business operators within the dome. The DOC also enforces business compliance with the citywide standards of other agencies, and grants licensing on this basis. All businesses operators and corporate directorships that wish to operate a business in the city should contact the DOC for further information about the relevant requirements.

Although New Aurora is the current capital of Americorp, National Corporate business accounts for only 3 percent of the city's annual income. Although exact figures are not available to the public, the city's major trades involve research and development, computer manufacturing, arms manufacturing and tourism.

Of course, New Aurora is a free city, and the area within the confines of the city dome is a free trade zone. This allows trade within the city to be done with cheap labor, without taxes and with little or no official corporate control. Prices within the dome are often as much as 500 percent less than similar items available just outside the dome.

Though exact figures are not available to the public, New Aurora's gross national product for 2098 was approximately 8,735.7 billion credits.

The Department of Finance and Revenue (DFR) collects city fees for services rendered and for all permits and licenses issued in New Aurora. It is also the city accounting agency, handling funds for all public projects and the corporate payroll. An annual report is published by the DFR, available through the Department of Commerce.

Personal (taxable net) Income:
Within dome - flat rate of 15 percent
Outside dome - flat rate of 25 percent, including Americorp tax.
Citizens residing within the free trade zone are not required to pay Americorp taxes.

Retail Sales Tax:
Within dome - none
Outside dome - 10% Americorp tax on all purchases.
