Iconoclast -- New Aurora -- Population
The population within the confines of New Aurora's dome increased by more than 200% between 2090 and 2100. 2100 population was 2,723,574, with approximately 15 to 25 million more residing in the suburbs outside of the dome (mostly in the triangular area between New Aurora, Dallas and Corvalis)., and approximately 7.1 million residing within the 25 square mile radius that officially makes up New Aurora. Population density within the dome's 11.3 square miles of usable living space is 247,598/sq. mile (approximately the same as that of Hong Kong).
As of January 1, 2099, the racial makeup of those within New Aurora city was:
White - 1,751,258 - 64.3 percent
Hispanic - 509,308 - 18.7 percent
Asian - 217,885 - 8.0 percent
Black - 144,349 - 5.3 percent
Other* - 100,774 - 3.7 percent
*Other includes Amerindian, GOTHE and all other racial groups, including artificial intelligences and other non-biological sentients.
Racial makeup of those residing outside of the dome are not currently available.
While it is true that all residents are required to have some form of identification on them at all times, obtaining a permit to enter New Aurora should not be seen as a hassle. In fact, whether one is interested in becoming a citizen of New Aurora, or simply visiting the city for a few weeks, there are a variety of easy options, including: One-day Visitor's pass; Three-day Business pass; One-week Vacation pass; Two-week Vacation pass; One-month Temporary Residency pass; One-year Permanent Residency pass; and One- to Five-year EZ-Pass implants.
The Department of Immigration Services (NAIS) of Immigration Services receives and processes residence permits for extrients wishing to reside or work within the city dome. Native-born New Aurorans may obtain birthing permits from the department. Routine Exit Passess (REP) or permanent exit permits are also processed by the NAIS for those wishing to leave dome limits.
