With origins in tranquilizer guns used in animal control, the SFM6 was specifically designed for use against humans by the LanTec Corporation. Intended for police use in response to the appearance of goth-based genotypes, the SFM6 carries five low-velocity sabot-type darts in an internal magazine. Far more accurate than tranquilizer guns used against animals, for which precision was really not a factor in use, the SFM6 includes a 4X integral scope and can hit with precise accuracy up to 200 feet and come close within 300 feet. Due to the small charge used in the mini-dart cartridge and an built-in sound suppressor, the gun is nearly silent. The company sells specially-manufactured dart cartridges for the SFM6 with potent blends of chemicals and nano-agents. Most commonly used are sleeper and supression darts, which take nearly instant effect on the brainstem and last for 15-30 minutes depending on the size and physiology of the target. Sleeper darts cause unconciousness while supression darts put the victim into a passive state of stupor and severely degraded motor control. Lethal darts for special operations use have also been developed, but their sale is highly restricted. Rumors exist of other darts with more insidious effects being sold on the black market or to intelligence agencies.

This ancient weapon has been around for centuries, and modern iterations of the crossbow are still being made. While bans and restrictions on firearms prevent most citizens from owning a gun, very few authorities restrict the sale of crossbows. Modern versions are often made with synthetic stocks and compound pulley systems to improve the amount of power the crossbow archer can produce. While open carry of crossbows is still considered lunatic behavior and is banned in most city limits, possessing one is not often criminal. Thus, the crossbow has begun to reappear as a tool of criminals, though the crossbow requires a great deal more skill in that use than a firearm does, since shots must be carefully placed to be effective. The law enforcement community is only beginning to react to the reemergence of this weapon. One major rift does exist, however. Bow archers, long fighting for their right to hunt in an exclusive season, often despise crossbows. The bow hunters consider the crossbow a mechanical compensation for lack of skill, and an affront to the dedication and perserverance it takes to learn to hunt with a bow.
