The idea of adding a little "zap" to a punch is not a new one; metal
knuckles of one form or another have been around for hundreds of years. The
brass not only adds weight to increase the force behind the blow, but
provides a hard ridge across the front of the fingers to protect them and
creates a narrow point of focus to intensify the blow's energy transfer.
This can make a poor punch a good one and a good punch devastating.

Rayzorr knuckles, manufactured overseas and smuggled into Americorp in
quantities that horrify pacifists and corporate executive alike, are nothing
more than a set of brass rings with razor blades attached to the front
and/or top. Designed mainly to severely wound rather than kill, they are
highly illegal yet popular due to their low price (the razor blades are
easily replaceable if they dull or break) and high intimidation value.
